DEAR STEELER FAMILY

I am sure I speak for many when I say... THANK YOU to the entire Steelers coaching staff who not only prepared our boys for making it through a tough and grueling season that ended in some making it to the playoffs and  for one age-group making it to the Championship.  In observing coaches from other organizations and how they berate and humiliate their athletes, I feel fortunate that we have an organization of coaches who care and show true concern for their athletes and their well-being.  There is nothing to be disappointed about this season because I am confident that each Steelers coach could recall several moments this season where their youth athletes made the time they volunteered coaching , worth every moment they spent on the field and away from their regular lives. Again, thanks to all of the coaches for a wonderful and thrilling season and we hope that you will lead next year’s crop of young men into battle as we WILL ALL certainly bring home the title of Champions!

The 2009 Steelers Cheerleader program participated in the MMYFCL Competition on Nov 15th at Cole Field House on the University of MD Campus.  Our girls treated the crowd to an awesome display of complicated acrobatic stunts usually reserved for cheerleaders with much more experience.  The Steelers spirit was felt by all in attendance which is truly a testament to the training, caring and attention to detail of Coach Adrienne and her staff.  Rest assured, the football half of the organization is so very proud of our girls and we will not miss another competition!  Their motto – “Steelers Spirit – Use it or Lose It”!!!!!!

I also want to take a moment to thank all of the parents and board members for your hard work and untiring dedication to not only instilling the drive to win in our youth players and cheerleaders but also to teach them lifelong lessons in the process.

And I would be remiss, if our Booster President wasn't thanked and shown appreciation for her unwavering and tireless efforts to raise much needed funds this organization needs to sustain its ability to provide a memorable experience for our youth athletes, parents and fans.

Thanks to all of you,

Walter Simmons

Director of Communications

Again, thanks to all who work tirelessly to make this program the success it is and what it can be.

About the Laurel Steelers and its Mission

The Laurel Steelers Football and Cheerleading Organization is a Howard County Recreation and Parks Sponsored Program encompassed under the Mid-Maryland Youth Football and Cheerleading umbrella.  We offer our youth the opportunity to achieve success in their sports while enjoying top notch facilities.  We strive to instill two key factors in our children: 1. “solid football/cheerleading fundamentals to promote individual growth and confidence on and off the field” and, 2. “how to be part of something bigger than themselves; experiencing the camaraderie of a team environment”.  We welcome all boys and girls from ages 5-14 with the hope that the children walk away with a since a pride and accomplishment.  We also hope to inspire the children to reach back and create new opportunities for youth that follow.  The culture of the Steelers Organization is “family based”.  The Steelers are a tight knit and very diverse community and we extend the opportunity to your family to experience “Steeler Nation” in the coming future.

Board Meeting

The Laurel Steelers Board of Directors meets every 3rd Wednesday of each month to discuss matters pertaining to the organization.  This is a meeting open to all parents with children registered with the Laurel Steelers program.  Meetings start at 7pm and are held at the Howard County Recreation and Parks Headquarter located at 7120 Oakland Mill Road Columbia, Maryland 21046. (Map it)

Any updates or changes to this schedule will be made known on this website.
